Why are Partition & wall corner protection guards or corner guards necessary?
Contemporary spaces are complex designs with lot of walls and partitions to enable an effective functional use and space optimization. Architectural and structural elements like columns, walls and partitions are bound to have corners, which would logically protrude into movement patterns of humans walking or carrying equipment etc. They’re easy to bump into and are inherently more fragile than flat wall areas.
While, practically, the corners cannot be avoided altogether, the damage which is caused to these corners due to their natural collision with movement patterns is an issue, which needs to be taken care of.
In residences, the corners of beautifully finished walls often get chipped and damaged in comparison to the rest of the walls due to accidentally bumping or hitting it while moving an object or furniture.
In hospitals and hospitality industries, heavy traffic of equipment and trolleys and patient beds often afflict the corners of partitions and walls with similar damage.
Places such as offices, restaurants, schools, and hospitals make use of equipment that usually impact or collide with the surfaces and corners, causing damage.
In fact, in interiors, be it residential, commercial, institutional or industrial, walls and partitions are usually prone to damage from objects hitting the corners, which may cause nicks, dents and chipping. This problem is aggravated more in areas with heavy traffic.
Walls which are lined with tiles or even stone also show similar degradation of corner finishes over time.
In repairing these damages, not only the corner, but the entire wall or partition surface may need refinishing, causing heavy loss of time and money.
Partition & wall corner protection guards for interior walls
An easy and durable solution is to use a Partition & wall corner protection guard, also called corner guard or wall corner trim, to reinforce the wall and partition corners.
In fact, there are some other aspects too, which if considered, would make installing corner guards a very wise decision.
In contemporary interiors, wall papers or plaster board lining is widely used. Over the time, wall papers tend to peel off at edges, especially at the wall corners. Installing a corner guard or wall corner trim will protect the edge finish, prolonging the life and preventing maintenance costs.
Similarly, finishing the corner joint of a board lining at the corner can be a tricky thing. Installing a corner guard, effectively hides the joint, saving a lot of time which goes in finishing.
Partition & wall corner protection guard can be used as a design element too by creating a framing effect on the wall.
Type of Partition & wall corner protection guard trims
Partition & wall corner protection guard are available in variety of sizes and materials like wood, plastic, stainless steel, rubber and aluminium. They may be as wide as 50mm or 2 inch on each side or as lean as 15mm. However, it will depend on the design of the wall if the wall is a feature wall.
Usually, corner guards are installed floor to ceiling, full height, but functionally, they are most useful till a height of 4 feet or 120 mm from the floor.
