Frequently Asked Questions- Office Glass Partitions

What should I consider when choosing a glass partition?

Start with the room’s use and privacy requirement. Look at sound insulation of the complete system (frame and glass together), the glass configurations it accepts, whether it can be changed later without demolition, design options such as grids, how doors integrate, and how it is installed. Compare tested wall and door assemblies, not glass alone. Profile width and finish matter, but they are only part of the decision.

STC (Sound Transmission Class) measures how much airborne sound a partition stops from passing between rooms. NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) measures how much sound a surface absorbs within a room. For glass partitions, STC is the relevant measure.

No. Glass thickness is one variable. Sound also travels through the frame and through junctions with the floor, ceiling and walls. Frames, seals, doors and junctions also affect sound transmission; the complete assembly needs to be considered. Beyond a point, thicker glass gives little improvement unless the frame is designed to limit that transmission.

Not necessarily. DGU and VIG units are designed mainly for thermal insulation. For interior partitions, two separate panes with a suitable air cavity in a well-designed frame usually perform better acoustically, although the result always depends on the complete partition assembly.

Choose HAPIUS when you need the GP254530X high sound insulation, future upgradability, expandable frame, varied glazing and mechanically assembled grids together in a single system. Performance provides high acoustic models with flexible glass configurations. Creative series focuses on creativity, grid design and materials while Essentia series uses a single pane or composite unit per opening and is a staple project series. The model matrix shows the exact distinctions.

Yes. IQUBX Creative and HAPIUS grid systems are assembled with true mechanical joinery. Each panel can be removed and the pattern or material changed later.
GPC1415 is a separate mechanically jointed add-on grid for existing glass.

Yes. All systems are assembled mechanically and can be dismantled, relocated and reinstalled.

Yes. The Performance, Creative and Essentia series carry the GreenPro Ecolabel Type 1; certification for the new HAPIUS GP254530X is in process. All are made from recycled aluminium.

Yes. IQUBX has supplied glass partitions to projects in the Middle East, including Oman, the UAE and Bahrain, and to Nepal.

No partition is completely soundproof. A glass partition reduces the sound passing between rooms, and the degree of reduction is expressed as a sound insulation rating such as STC or Rw. How much speech remains audible depends on the complete assembly: frame, glass configuration, seals, door and surrounding construction. For confidential rooms, specify a system engineered for high sound insulation rather than relying on thicker glass alone.

A DGU (double glazed unit) is a factory-sealed unit of two panes separated by a spacer, installed in one glazing slot as a single component and designed mainly for thermal insulation. A double-glazed partition holds two separate panes in the frame, each supported independently, with an air cavity between them. For interior acoustics, two independently held panes with an adequate cavity generally perform better than a sealed unit of similar thickness.

A laboratory test measures the partition alone under controlled conditions. On site, sound also travels through gaps at floor and ceiling junctions, the ceiling void, service penetrations, door perimeters and adjoining construction. In IQUBX’s project experience, installed ratings have often been five points or more below laboratory ratings. Careful detailing of junctions, seals and doors narrows that gap.

Most glass partition systems cannot: their frame width and glazing configuration are fixed, so better performance requires replacement. The IQUBX HAPIUS series is designed for upgrades after installation. A single-glazed partition can take additional panes in the same frame, glass types can be changed, and the frame can be widened from 45 mm to 135 mm or more with extension modules, without removing the partition.

Georgian bars are strips fixed with adhesive or tape onto the face of a large pane to create the appearance of a grid. A true Crittall-style grid is structural: each pane is held separately within the grid frame. IQUBX Creative and HAPIUS grid systems are structural grids assembled with mechanical joinery, so individual panes or panels can be removed and the pattern or material changed later.

Frameless partitions rely on minimal channels and glass-to-glass joints, which limit the seals and cavity depth that sound insulation needs. Framed systems can hold double glazing, deeper cavities and continuous seals. Where speech privacy matters, a well-engineered framed system is generally the better choice, and the design of the frame itself determines how much sound it carries.

Both are single-number laboratory ratings of airborne sound insulation. STC (Sound Transmission Class) derives from ASTM methods and is used mainly in North America and widely quoted in India. Rw (weighted sound reduction index), expressed in decibels, derives from ISO methods and is used in the UK and Europe. The two are calculated differently and are close but not interchangeable, so compare products using the same rating.

A partition performs only as well as the door set into it. Acoustic partitions should be paired with a door that has perimeter seals and a drop seal at the threshold, and a glazing build-up comparable to the partition. IQUBX supplies matching door frames and glass doors for each series, including double-glazed and DGU doors.

The same product category is described differently around the world. In India they are commonly called glass partitions, glass cabin partitions or aluminium glass partitions; in the Middle East, glass partitions or aluminium glass partitions; in the UK and Europe, glazed partitions, glass partitioning or glass office partitions; and in the USA, glass wall systems, demountable glass walls or modular glass walls. Grid designs are widely called Crittall-style partitions.

Prices vary with the glass build-up, frame system, acoustic performance, height, doors and site conditions. Indicative published market ranges are: in India, about ₹350–650 per sq ft for aluminium-framed single-glazed partitions and ₹600–1200 per sq ft for framed double-glazed acoustic partitions, excluding GST; in the UAE, about AED 300–800 per m² for basic fixed partitions and AED 1,000–2,000 per m² for boardroom-grade partitions; in the UK, from about £300 per linear metre for single glazing to £1,000 or more per linear metre for acoustic double glazing; in the USA, typically $30–90 per sq ft, with acoustic and specialty systems higher. These are general market figures, not IQUBX prices. For a project estimate, share your layout, heights and acoustic requirements with IQUBX.

Typically, our glass partition systems, with all the unique and advanced benefits, compare to the prevalent market rates of normal glass partitions.

Frequently Asked Questions- HAPIUS Acoustic Glass Partitions

What is HAPIUS?

HAPIUS (High Acoustic Performance Integrated Upgradable System) is the IQUBX framing technology for acoustic glass partitions, under patent. Its frame combines a slim rigid spine with resilient, snap-fitted parts that reflect and absorb vibration, its glass is suspended and not clamped, and its glazing and frame width can be upgraded after installation. The first HAPIUS system is GP254530X.

In most glass partitions the sound does not pass only through the glass. The glass vibrates, the rigid frame carries that vibration to the other side, and gaps at the door, floor and ceiling add to it. Thicker glass alone does not remove these paths. A partition whose frame is designed to limit vibration, with sealed junctions and a matching door, is required.

A conventional frame is a continuous rigid extrusion that clamps the glass. A HAPIUS frame places a chain of compliant inserts and resilient interfaces in the path of vibration, joined without welding or adhesive, so that vibration is reflected and absorbed at many points. The glass is held resiliently at every edge and does not touch the rigid spine.

Yes. Resilient suspension damps the pane and reduces the sound it radiates, and the frame carries less vibration. These effects do not depend on a second pane, so they apply to single-glazed partitions, where conventional systems can offer only the mass of the glass.

Yes. Each pane is suspended separately, which largely removes the mechanical coupling that penalises matched panes in a rigid frame. Panes of different thickness or construction can still be used for an additional margin.

Extension modules of 30 mm interlock with the installed 45 mm base module. The inserts are repositioned to suit the wider frame, and the existing glass, inserts and gaskets are reused. The work is done in place, without dismantling the installed spine or disturbing adjoining finishes.

It stays in service. An upgrade adds a pane, changes the position of the glass or widens the frame; the installed glass is retained unless a different glass type is specifically wanted.

Choose the width that meets the present requirement of the room. A 45 mm frame suits single glazing; wider frames take double and triple glazing and deeper cavities for higher sound insulation. Because the frame can be widened later, it is not necessary to specify for a requirement that has not yet arisen.

Accredited laboratory testing is scheduled. Ratings for each width and glazing configuration will be published on this page, with the test reports, once they are issued.

HAPIUS is the IQUBX series engineered for rooms where speech privacy matters most, such as boardrooms, legal and HR rooms and consultation rooms. The configuration should be chosen with the door, ceiling void and junction details, since these also determine the privacy achieved.

Frequently Asked Questions- Performance Series Glass Partitions

What is the IQUBX Performance series?

The Performance series is the IQUBX range of glass partitions for good sound insulation with a choice of glazing. It has three models, GP18100, GP2160 and GP2175, in multi-slot aluminium frames of 100, 60 and 75 mm. GP18100 and GP2160 take single glass, double glass or a DGU / VIG unit in the same base frame.

Choose GP18100 for the widest choice of glazing, the deepest cavity for double glass and the hybrid build-up. Choose GP2160 for a choice of glazing in a compact 60 mm frame, or for curved partition runs. Choose GP2175 for single glass in a 75 mm frame that sits in line with gypsum and other partition walls.

Yes. GP18100 and GP2160 take single glass, double glass and sealed units in the same base frame. Cabins can be single-glazed and meeting rooms double-glazed, while the frame, the finish and the doors are the same in every room.

Yes. IQUBX has delivered curved partition runs and rounded corners in the GP2160 model of the Performance series. Curved runs are made from a radius of 600 mm, to a height of 3000 mm (10 feet), usually in single glass of 10 or 12 mm. The minimum radius can vary with the supplier of the bent glass.

GP2175 has a 75 mm frame, which matches the usual thickness of gypsum and other partition walls, so glazed and solid walls align. It takes single glass of 8 to 12 mm and is paired with the DF03-75 door frame.

In GP18100H a single toughened or laminated pane and a DGU or VIG unit of 18 to 24 mm are held together in one frame. The two elements differ in mass and construction, so they do not share the same weak frequency.

Every pane has a frequency, set by its thickness, at which its sound insulation dips. Two identical panes dip at the same frequency. Panes of different thickness or construction, such as 10 mm toughened with 13.5 mm laminated, dip at different frequencies, which improves the sound insulation of the pair.

A Performance frame is a rigid multi-slot base profile with compliant snap-fit mouldings, and its sound insulation is set by the glazing chosen at specification. In HAPIUS only a slim spine is rigid and the rest of the frame is compliant or resilient, which gives high sound insulation, and the glazing and frame width can be changed after installation.

GP18100 uses the DF03-102 door frame, GP2175 the DF03-75 and GP2160 the DF03-50. GD05 doors are available for single glass, double glass and DGU / VIG units, with drop seals.

Frequently Asked Questions- Creative Series Glass Partitions

What is the IQUBX Creative series?

The Creative series is the IQUBX range of grid glass partitions for design-led interiors. Grids can be made in any size and pattern, panels can be of glass, wood, stone, ceramic, metal, canvas or art, and every joint is mechanical, so any panel or the whole design can be changed later. Sliding and curved glass partitions have pages of their own.

Choose GPC1550 for the slimmest grid, which is also made as sliding and sliding-folding partitions. Choose GPC1750 for a two-colour edge and glass up to 12 mm, and GPC2060 for a sturdy grid that opens from one side only. Choose GPC18100 for a grid with good sound insulation, and the HAPIUS GPC254530X for a grid with high sound insulation. GPC1415 adds a grid to existing glass.

Yes. Each pane or panel is held by snap-fit mouldings in its own bay. The mouldings are released, the panel is withdrawn and another is fitted, without dismantling the partition or breaking any glass. The grid pattern can also be revised, reusing most of the parts.

Veneer and relief-carved wood, metal sheet and metal screens, ceramic tile, stone, hand-painted canvas and works of art. Thin decorative materials such as tile and veneer are fixed to a base panel, which is then held in the grid mechanically like a pane of glass.

Yes. GPC1550 is made as a sliding partition (GPCSL1550) and a sliding-folding partition (GPCSF1550) that match the fixed grid. The [Sliding glass partitions] page covers all the IQUBX sliding systems.

Yes. GPC1415 is a 14 × 15 mm mechanically jointed grid fitted onto existing glass from one side or both, without replacing the glass. It can also be curved to form arches and circles, and applied to curved glass.

Yes. GPC18100 builds the grid on a 100 mm multi-chamber frame, in single or double glass, for good sound insulation. For high sound insulation, the GPC254530X series builds the grid from the HAPIUS acoustic frame itself, in every width of that frame.

IQUBX curved partitions are built in GPCR2160 and GPCR1436, which do not take a structural grid. A grid is given by applying GPC1415 to the curved glass as a faux frame, on one side or on both. The [Curved glass partitions] page gives the radii, heights and glass.

Yes. In GPC1750 the base and the snap-fit moulding can be finished in different colours, and in GPC1550 the inner grid can differ from the frame, for example black with rose-gold or with a wood finish.

The series is designed for interiors. GPC2060 opens from one side only, and for that reason designers and applicators have also used it for exterior fixed windows and façade glazing in homes and retail. Suitability for any exterior application is to be assessed by the project team.

Frequently Asked Questions- Essentia Series Glass Partitions

What is the IQUBX Essentia series?

The Essentia series is the staple IQUBX range of single-glass partitions for projects. It has three slim, mechanically assembled systems, GP1436, GP2510 and GP4028, each holding one pane of glass per opening, and in GP4028 a DGU or VIG unit as an alternative.

Choose GP1436 for the slimmest frame and the greatest economy, with mitred corners and its own slim door. Choose GP2510 where a single-glass partition must also give good sound insulation. Choose GP4028 for a broad 40 mm face on a 28 mm footprint, for heights up to 3600 mm, or for a DGU or VIG unit.

GP1436, which shows a face of 14 mm on a footprint of 36 mm. Its corners can be mitred at 45°, and it has a matching slim door frame, DF04, and door, GD06.

Yes, in GP2510. Its frame is made in two parts that are not rigidly mounted on a common base plate, and with 10 mm toughened glass it has been tested at STC 42. For more than this, or for a choice of glazing, see the Performance and HAPIUS series.

Essentia is a single-glass series. GP4028 also accepts a DGU or VIG unit of 18 to 20 mm. For double glazing with separate panes, see the Performance and HAPIUS series.

GP1436 and GP2510 are made for heights of 2400 to 3000 mm. GP4028 is recommended up to 3600 mm, and has been used in projects up to 3900 mm.

Yes, in GP1436. Its front-lock mouldings allow the framing to be joined at 45°, which gives a clean mitred corner in place of a butt joint.

GP1436 and GP4028 use the DF04 door frame with the GD06 single-glass door. GP2510 uses the DF03-50 door frame with the GD05S single-glass or GD05D double-glass door.

The system is designed for interiors. Because its glass is removed from one side only, designers and applicators have also used it for exterior fixed windows and façades. Suitability for any exterior application is to be assessed by the project team.

Frequently Asked Questions- Essentia Series Glass Partitions

Why do curved rooms feel different from straight ones?

People prefer curved forms to sharp-angled ones, and research has found that rooms with curved contours are judged more beautiful, with the response visible in the parts of the brain linked to reward and emotion. A curve is read as organic, welcoming and sensuous, and because it is difficult to make, it also signals care and exclusivity.

Yes. IQUBX builds curved glass partitions in two systems, GPCR2160 and GPCR1436. The aluminium head and base profiles are bent to the radius of the curve and hold bent toughened glass, and the run can pass from straight to curved in the same frame.

In GPCR2160 the radius starts at 600 mm, although the minimum can vary with the supplier of the bent glass. GPCR1436 can be bent to about 300 to 400 mm, provided the glass can be made to match; the radius is confirmed for each project.

Bent toughened glass is recommended in every case. Because the bent frame and the bent glass may differ slightly, IQUBX recommends glass one step thinner than the maximum the system accepts: 10 mm in place of 12 mm, although 12 mm can be used.

Curved partitions have so far been built with single glass. GPCR2160 can accommodate double curved glass where the bent glass is made accurately enough for both panes to follow the frame to the millimetre.

Yes, usually in a straight section next to the curve. A curved door can be made, but door hardware such as closers may not work on it, so a straight section for the door is recommended.

The curved systems take no structural grid. A grid is given by applying GPC1415 to the curved glass as a faux frame, on one side or on both.

Bent glass is made to order, with a die for each radius, so a curved partition needs a flexible and longer lead time: at least one to three weeks more than a straight partition for modest quantities, and considerably longer for large orders. Tinted, coloured and special glass can take longer still.

Curved runs have not been tested for sound insulation. They use the same frame, gaskets and method as the straight systems, and are expected to perform on a par with them.

Frequently Asked Questions- Sliding and Sliding- Folding Glass Partitions

What is the difference between a sliding and a sliding-folding glass partition?

In a sliding partition, full-width shutters run on several parallel tracks and overlap one another, stacking completely when open. In a sliding-folding partition, the shutters are hinged together and run on a single track, folding into a compact stack; in IQUBX systems the first shutter is half-width and hinged to the frame, because the hardware is centre-mounted.

Both use shutters on parallel tracks. In bypass sliding each shutter moves independently, so any one can be opened alone. In telescopic sliding the shutters are linked, so drawing the leading shutter brings the others with it. IQUBX offers both.

The first figure refers to the fixed panel and the figure after the + is the number of sliding shutters. Makers write the fixed panel either as 0 or as 1, so 0+2 and 1+2 describe the same arrangement. IQUBX offers telescopic configurations from 0+1 to 0+4.

A bi-parting arrangement in which two linked shutters part from the middle together, sliding in opposite directions. IQUBX builds it with two shutters alone, or with two fixed panels and two sliding centre shutters.

To the side of the half shutter, which is hinged to the frame. Depending on the hardware, a full shutter can be used at the end, but the partition still folds to that side. A large opening can be divided into two sliding-folding sets that fold to opposite sides.

IQUBX usually takes sliding partitions to 3000 mm (10 feet). Heights up to 12 feet are possible where the shutters are narrow, since the weight of each shutter is the deciding factor.

IQUBX recommends 8 or 10 mm toughened glass. GPCSL1550 and GPCSF1550 take glass up to 10 mm at present, and a new GPC1550 moulding in development will allow 11.5 mm laminated and 12 mm glass. In the GD series, 11.5 mm laminated or 12 mm toughened glass can be used for narrower shutters.

Sliding partitions are chosen for flexibility, not for sound insulation. IQUBX sliding partitions have provision for brush seals at the top and bottom rails, which improve sound insulation, but where speech privacy matters most a fixed partition should be used.

Yes. GPCSL1550 and GPCSF1550 are designed for grids, and the grid strengthens the slim shutter. GD02SL / SF, GD03SL / SF and GD04SL / SF can also carry grids, in the same pattern and finish as the fixed partition.

Pocket partitions are not offered as standard, but IQUBX systems can be adapted for a pocket, where the shutters slide into a cavity in the wall.

IQUBX systems are compatible with a wide range of hardware, including ASSA ABLOY, dormakaba (Dorma), GEZE, Hettich, Mantion, Kin Long, OPK, Inox, Ozone and Dorset. Specific models should be cross-checked for compatibility with team IQUBX. IQUBX is also launching its own series of sliding hardware.
