Essentia Series Glass Partitions

Slim Single-Glass Aluminium Partitions for Projects

Essentia Series Glass Partitions

Slim, single-glass partitions, quick install, cost-effective

The Essentia series is part of the range of [IQUBX modular glass partitions]. The [main glass partitions page] explains [what glass partitions are and why they are used], the [framing systems and glass configurations] available, and the parameters to consider when [choosing a glass partition]. This page deals with the three systems of the Essentia series: what they offer, how they differ from one another, and where each is used.

The Essentia series is the staple IQUBX range for projects: slim, mechanically assembled frames that hold one pane of glass, or one sealed unit, in each opening. It is made for the many cabins, work rooms and enclosures of a project where a clean glazed front, quick installation and economy matter most. This series is engineered with less aluminium, distributed intelligently across their cross-sections, and all three systems are made up of few components, so less is manufactured, transported and stored for each metre of partition.

The three frames give a designer three different lines. GP1436 is the slimmest, with a face of 14 mm on a footprint of 36 mm. GP2510, at 25 × 42 mm, is of the size generally used for single-glass partitions, but is engineered to give good sound insulation. GP4028 reverses the usual proportion, with a broad face of 40 mm on a footprint of only 28 mm, which gives a bolder frame line while taking very little floor; it is a particular look, preferred by the designers and clients who want it. GP2510 is chosen where sound insulation matters, and the other two for their slimness, their look and their economy.

GP1436 is used where sound insulation is not a requirement of the room. GP2510 is the exception in this series. Its frame is in two parts that are not rigidly united, and with 10 mm toughened glass it has been tested at STC 42, which is good sound insulation for a single-glass partition. The main page explains the [acoustic requirements and practical limitations] that a project should weigh, including the difference between a laboratory rating and the result on site.

Where a room needs good sound insulation with a choice of glazing, the [Performance series] is the appropriate choice; where it needs lifetime upgradable high sound insulation, the [HAPIUS series]; and where it needs grids and mixed materials, the [Creative series].

Systems of this kind are described as office glass partitions, glass cabin partitions or aluminium glass partitions in India and the Middle East; as single glazed or slimline glazed partitions in the UK and Europe; and as single glazed glass walls or demountable glass walls in the USA.

GP1436 - 14 × 36 mm

GP1436 is the slimmest and the most economical glass partition in the IQUBX range, with a face of 14 mm on a footprint of 36 mm. Its front-lock mouldings allow clean mitred joints, chamfered at 45°, at the corners of the framing, and large plain glazed surfaces can be built with true mechanical joinery. It’s main section comes in two forms – one with snap fit mouldings on both side, and the other which is of one single rigid formation for faster assembly. The two forms give a project a choice in cost and in installation time. GP1436 has its own matching slim door frame DF04 and door GD06. It is chosen for its slimness and economy, and not for sound insulation.

Curved variation: GPCR1436

GP1436 is also built as a curved partition, referred to as GPCR1436, which gives a curve in the slimmest frame of the range. A detailed description of this application, including Radii, glass and heights are given on the [Curved glass partitions] page.

GP2510 - 25 × 42 mm, with good sound insulation

GP2510 is a single-glass partition of ordinary size, 25 × 42 mm, for 8 and 10 mm toughened glass. It holds the glass firmly on all four sides and is assembled quickly, with a single snap-fit moulding. It does not have the multi-slot or multi-chamber frame of the Performance series, yet it gives good sound insulation, and the reason lies in the way its frame is made.

In most slim frames the two faces that hold the glass rise from a common rigid base, so that the frame is one body from one side of the partition to the other. GP2510 is made in two parts, and its first part has no base beneath its front face. The section runs from the front face, over and back to a second face that bears on the glass through a gasket, and then continues as a flange. The glass rests on this flange, and the second part of the frame, the moulding, is mounted on the same flange by snap-fit to hold the glass from the other side. The two faces of the frame are therefore not rigidly mounted on a base plate, and the frame cannot be called a rigid assembly.

We attribute its sound insulation to this construction. With 10 mm toughened glass, GP2510 has been tested at STC 42. It is the only system of the Essentia series with this property. Its small cross-section and its single snap-fit moulding also make it economical and quick to install, which is why it belongs to this series.

Designed for interiors, it has been used for external fenestrations – fixed small windows, since the glass can only be removed from one side, making it secure from outside.  Suitability for any exterior application is to be assessed by the project team

GP4028 - 40 × 28 mm

GP4028 has a footprint of only 28 mm and a robust face of 40 mm. It is a distinctive proportion, preferred by designers and clients who want a bolder frame line while giving up very little floor. A double-lock moulding on one side makes installation quick and secure. It takes single glass of 10 or 12 mm, laminated glass of 11.5 or 13.5 mm, or a DGU or VIG unit of 18 to 20 mm. It is recommended for heights up to 3600 mm, and has been used in projects up to 3900 mm.

Designed for interiors. Because its glass is removed from one side only, GP4028 has also been used by designers and applicators for exterior fixed windows and façades; suitability for any exterior application is to be assessed by the project team.

Doors and door frames

Each Essentia system has a door frame and door to suit it. GP1436 and GP4028 are paired with the slim DF04 door frame and the GD06 door, which has a 55 × 32 mm stile for single glass of 8 or 10 mm and can be fitted with a drop seal. GP2510 is paired with the DF03-50 door frame and the GD05 doors, in single or double glass, so that the door keeps pace with the sound insulation of the partition. Optionally, GD03 is also very good for GP2510 since its stile width would match the face of this partition – 25 and 26 mm.

Sustainability

The economy of the Essentia series is also an economy of material. GP1436 and GP2510 is engineered with lesser aluminium distributed intelligently in their cross-section , and all three systems have few components, so less is manufactured, transported and stored for each metre of partition. The frames are made of recycled-content 6063-T6 aluminium, are assembled dry and are demountable, so frames and glass can be reused when a layout changes. The series carries the GreenPro Ecolabel Type 1. The main page explains the [hidden carbon of interior change], and the HAPIUS page sets out the [IQUBX notional lifecycle study] of modular interior systems.

Works with IQUBX demountable partitions

Creative series glass partitions can be combined in one project with IQUBX demountable partitions. They pair most naturally with WP02P snap-fit paneling, which shares their approach of mechanically held, changeable panels and mixed materials, and they can equally be used with WP03P solid partitions and WP01P paneling partitions, so that glazed and solid walls are planned, supplied and reconfigured as one modular interior system. The grooves or visible sections in these demountable partitions can be matched to the grids in the creative glass series to create a wider aesthetic grammar.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IQUBX Essentia series?

The Essentia series is the staple IQUBX range of single-glass partitions for projects. It has three slim, mechanically assembled systems, GP1436, GP2510 and GP4028, each holding one pane of glass per opening, and in GP4028 a DGU or VIG unit as an alternative.

Choose GP1436 for the slimmest frame and the greatest economy, with mitred corners and its own slim door. Choose GP2510 where a single-glass partition must also give good sound insulation. Choose GP4028 for a broad 40 mm face on a 28 mm footprint, for heights up to 3600 mm, or for a DGU or VIG unit.

GP1436, which shows a face of 14 mm on a footprint of 36 mm. Its corners can be mitred at 45°, and it has a matching slim door frame, DF04, and door, GD06.

Yes, in GP2510. Its frame is made in two parts that are not rigidly mounted on a common base plate, and with 10 mm toughened glass it has been tested at STC 42. For more than this, or for a choice of glazing, see the Performance and HAPIUS series.

Essentia is a single-glass series. GP4028 also accepts a DGU or VIG unit of 18 to 20 mm. For double glazing with separate panes, see the Performance and HAPIUS series.

GP1436 and GP2510 are made for heights of 2400 to 3000 mm. GP4028 is recommended up to 3600 mm, and has been used in projects up to 3900 mm.

Yes, in GP1436. Its front-lock mouldings allow the framing to be joined at 45°, which gives a clean mitred corner in place of a butt joint.

GP1436 and GP4028 use the DF04 door frame with the GD06 single-glass door. GP2510 uses the DF03-50 door frame with the GD05S single-glass or GD05D double-glass door.

The system is designed for interiors. Because its glass is removed from one side only, designers and applicators have also used it for exterior fixed windows and façades. Suitability for any exterior application is to be assessed by the project team.
