As part of the IQUBX Industry & Education Outreach Program, we recently hosted an industry visit by second-year Interior Design students from K.R. Mangalam University, accompanied by their faculty, Ar. Mrinalini Singh and Ar. Gulnaaz, at the IQUBX Innovation Experience Centre.

The visit was designed as an immersive engagement, aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world interior architectural systems.

The session moved beyond conventional discussions on materials and finishes, and focused instead on systems-driven design thinking — positioning partitions, ceilings, and interior elements not as static components, but as engineered, non-load-bearing systems defined by performance parameters.

Through live demonstrations, real-scale installations, and working mock-ups, students were introduced to:

  • The distinction between walls and partitions as designed systems
  • The role of acoustics, fire safety, structure, and thermal behaviour
  • Integration of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and data services
  • The importance of modularity, maintenance access, and future adaptability
  • The logic of assembly, detailing, and execution within interior systems

Led by Ar. Amit Garg, Founder-IQUBX, the session extended into broader discussions on design intent, functional requirements, construction constraints, and long-term performance. Students were encouraged to question assumptions and understand that interior design is not merely about visual outcomes, but about integration, coordination, and responsibility.

What stood out during the interaction was the clarity of thought, curiosity, and depth of understanding demonstrated by the students. Their ability to engage with complex aspects of interior systems reflects the strong academic foundation and guidance being provided by K.R. Mangalam University and its faculty.

It is encouraging to see institutions placing emphasis on industry exposure, critical thinking, and real-world relevance – all of which are essential in shaping future-ready interior designers and architects.

At IQUBX, we continue to engage with academic institutions to influence how young designers think-encouraging them to recognise that flexibility, maintainability, and sustainability are not constraints, but design opportunities. Systems must be conceived not just for day one, but for the years that follow.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the faculty and students of K.R. Mangalam University and wish them the very best for their future.
